Alanson Area Public Library Code of ConductFebruary, 2009
The purposes of the Library’s rules for behavior in the
public sector are to protect the rights of individuals who are in the Library to
use library materials and/or services, to protect the rights of staff members to
conduct library business without interference, and to preserve library materials
and facilities. Library requests that all patrons:
· Speak in soft voices- no yelling or loud singing. · Throw trash in proper receptacles. · When using headphones, set the volume so others cannot hear it. Please do not take off your headphones and use them as speakers- this is very distracting to other patrons. · Wear a shirt, shoes and other proper attire. · Turn cell phone ringers off, and hold phone conversations in the foyer or outside the library. · Understand that the library staff is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen goods. · Use one chair per person and no more than two heads per computer. · Refrain from eating or drinking anywhere in the library. · Refrain from loitering or smoking on library property. · Refrain from rough housing on library policy, including, but not limited to pushing, throwing snowballs, and running. · Riding skateboards, scooters, blades, or other devices on library property. · Comply with the library’s Internet and Computer Use policies.
Other Library Rules
Library users are not permitted in non-public areas of the library unless performing volunteer tasks that have been approved by the Librarian. This includes the area behind the circulation desk and the Librarian’s office.
The library reserves the right to limit group size based on available space and noise level of the group.
The library reserves the right to supervise people in any area of the library.
The library reserves the right to inspect any bags or backpacks.
There is no soliciting for any reason.
Unattended ChildrenChildren are encouraged to use and enjoy the library facilities and services. Responsibility for children using the library rests with the parent or assigned caregiver. Children under the age of seven must be under the supervision of a parent or assigned caregiver when in the library. Older children may use the library unattended for an amount of time appropriate to their age and maturity. Parents or guardians are responsible for making arrangements for their children to be picked up before the library closes.
Non-ComplianceAny patron who is not in compliance with any aspect of this code of conduct will receive a verbal warning from the librarian or his/her designee, and will be asked to sign a non-compliance statement. If there is continued non-compliance after this warning, the patron will have library privileges withheld for one month. If there is a third offense within three (3) months after privileges are reinstated, the patron will lose library privileges for six months. If there are any further violations, the patron will be recommended to the library board for loss of privileges for a full year.
Loss of Privileges may be appealed to the library board.
